*Welcome to the Fall semester 2010 class wiki!

This is Tessa Huftalin and Sabrina Glaza's Innovation Wiki. Our topic was...wikis.

Want to know more about how to use a wiki in the classroom? This page is a workspace used to update with new information, resources, and helpful materials pertaining to wikis. To get started, you must have a pbworks account and then login and request access to this workspace, after which you will be able to contribute and collaborate on this very page!

A wiki is a tool for collaboration, information sharing and knowledge/content management. You can personalize, tweak, and edit your wiki in any way that will aid in your success as an effective educator. Wikis also allow teachers to join communities in which they can collaborate with other teachers and share presentation materials, ideas, resources, and general information, advice, or experiences.

Some reasons why you need a wiki in your classroom:

Class Resources - Publish class notes, PowerPoint lectures, schedules and policies; show off examples of great student work.

Group Projects - Build collaborative pages, start discussions and encourage comments.

Parent Outreach - Keep parents involved. Post assignments, key dates and volunteer lists. All available at home, from work, or anywhere. Student Portfolios - Give students their own page to post content, upload homework, and share their work.

Expand Horizons - Share and interact with other classrooms or groups, across town or around the world.

Why wikis will help in your career as an educator:

Networking: Teachers around the world can share experiences, resources, and presentation materials

Easy: collaboration in seconds

Trial and Error: bounce ideas off  of people in the same career field  or who teach the same subject
